Our Roots: The Worsley Family & Over 50 Years of Growing at Uxbridge Nurseries

Since 1972, Uxbridge Nurseries has been growing more than trees — we’ve been growing relationships, trust, and landscapes that last for generations.

What began as a family operation rooted in strong agricultural values has grown into one of Ontario’s respected wholesale field-grown nursery producers. Through changing seasons, markets, and industry trends, one thing has remained constant: our commitment to quality.

🌱 Humble Beginnings (1972)

Uxbridge Nurseries was founded by the Worsley family with a clear vision — to produce strong, dependable nursery stock for Ontario’s growing landscape industry.

In the early days, operations were simple:

  • Fields prepared by hand and equipment
  • Young stock planted carefully by season
  • Growth monitored closely year after year
  • Long hours and steady dedication

Like trees themselves, the business grew steadily — rooted in patience and hard work.

🌾 Growing Across Six Farms

Over the decades, production expanded to multiple farm locations throughout the Uxbridge and surrounding GTA region.

Today, our six farms allow us to:

  • Grow a wide range of species
  • Rotate fields for soil health
  • Produce large-caliper field-grown trees
  • Maintain consistent inventory for contractors and municipalities
  • Plan multi-year crop cycles for future demand

Each field represents years of planning. A 3–4” caliper tree available today may have been planted 5–8 years ago.

That long-term thinking defines who we are.

🌳 Specializing in Field-Grown Excellence

Uxbridge Nurseries built its reputation on large-caliper field-grown trees.

Unlike container stock, our trees:

  • Develop strong, anchored root systems
  • Are conditioned naturally to Ontario’s climate
  • Offer greater wind resistance
  • Provide immediate landscape presence
  • Deliver higher survival rates after transplanting

Our Ball & Burlap (B&B) process ensures each tree is harvested with care, preserving root integrity from field to final planting site.

🚜 Adapting With the Industry

While our roots remain traditional, we continuously evolve to support modern landscaping needs.

Over the years we have:

  • Expanded species selection
  • Increased caliper production
  • Improved digging and handling processes
  • Enhanced logistics from field to yard to delivery
  • Adopted improved tracking and operational systems

Yet despite modernization, the core remains the same — family-run values and hands-on involvement.

🤝 Built on Relationships

Our customers include:

  • Landscape contractors
  • Municipalities
  • Developers
  • Garden centers
  • Property managers

Many relationships span decades.

Because in wholesale nursery production, trust matters. Landscapers need reliability. Municipalities need consistency. Contractors need trees that perform long after planting.

That reliability is something the Worsley family has prioritized for over 50 years.

🌲 Growing Trees That Outlive Us

There’s something meaningful about driving past a boulevard lined with trees you once grew as saplings.

The trees planted today will:

  • Shade streets for generations
  • Improve air quality
  • Reduce urban heat
  • Provide habitat for wildlife
  • Add beauty to communities

Being part of that long-term impact is what motivates us every season.

🌿 A Commitment to Wholesale Quality

We remain strictly wholesale-focused, allowing us to:

  • Produce in large quantities
  • Support professional landscaping projects
  • Maintain consistent grading standards
  • Grow specifically for Ontario conditions

Every tree that leaves our yard reflects decades of knowledge, experience, and family dedication.

🌳 Looking Ahead

As the landscape industry continues to evolve, so do we.

With multi-year crop planning already underway, expanded evergreen production, and continued investment in field-grown excellence, Uxbridge Nurseries remains committed to supporting Ontario’s growing communities.

Our story isn’t just about the past.

It’s about the next 50 years.
